There lay a monster beneath that face
Not a trace of beauty, no hint of grace
Oh what tragedy circumstances brought
Was she really the one he had sought?

She stood naked looking at her body
Her little heart tattoo fading already
Oh what folly lay in superficial worry!
When it was her soul growing weary

She looked at her reflection staring back
Those eyes that once shone midnight black
Spots of mildew on her frozen heart
Dear Lord, the monster is tearing her apart

If she can’t be embraced by the light
Could she hope to be swallowed by the night?
